"Shell" Architectural Landmark
The "Shell" architectural landmark is designed by the renowned British design studio, Benoy. The iconic roof design, inspired by the concept of a shell, complements and resonates with the "Haitang Flower" structure across from it, creating a harmonious and cohesive visual narrative. When viewed from above, the building resembles a shell embedded in the sand, embodying local Hainan elements while also setting the theme for a leisure and resort-style experience.
The design inspiration for the project comes from the ocean's treasures—shells. The biomimetic roof design is fluid and dynamic, perfectly suited to the tropical climate, and creates a comfortable semi-outdoor space. The roof features a flexible membrane structure that integrates seamlessly with the Yunjie Bridge, the landscape plaza, and the water features, creating a unified and cohesive environment. At night, the interplay of vibrant lighting enhances the overall effect, with the illuminated structures complementing each other and creating a breathtaking nighttime spectacle. This innovative design elevates the architectural presence of the Sanya International Duty-Free Shopping Complex to new heights.
By drawing on the natural beauty and forms found in the ocean, the "Shell" building not only serves as a functional and aesthetically pleasing space but also reinforces the connection between the built environment and the surrounding natural landscape, offering visitors a unique and immersive experience.
